Moscow Court Slaps Google with Fresh Fine Over Data Rules

(MENAFN) A Moscow court on Monday convicted Google of breaching Russian information access regulations, slapping the US tech giant with penalties totaling 19 million rubles ($250,560) across five administrative cases, Russia's Tagansky District Court ruled.

The latest ruling compounds Google's mounting legal exposure in Russia, which already includes a staggering previously reported judgment of 91.5 quintillion rubles — a figure widely described as record-breaking in scale.

Google is not alone in facing regulatory consequences. A growing roster of Western technology firms has encountered blocking measures or severe access restrictions on Russian soil after authorities determined they failed to comply with national law. Among those affected: X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and video-streaming giant YouTube.

The crackdown signals Moscow's continued and escalating pressure campaign against foreign digital platforms that refuse — or fail — to align with Russia's domestic internet legislation, raising fresh concerns over the long-term viability of Western tech operations within the country.
