BrahMos Signals Readiness to Supply Supersonic Missiles to Russia

(MENAFN) BrahMos Aerospace has indicated that it is prepared to accept potential orders for supersonic cruise missiles from Russia’s naval or ground forces, according to reports.

The company stated that if such a request were made, it could supply the system back to one of its original partner countries, highlighting the evolving dynamics of defense cooperation and India’s expanding role in advanced weapons production.

The BrahMos missile system is available in multiple configurations, including land-based, air-launched, and naval versions, and has already been integrated into India’s armed forces across all three domains. Any possible procurement by Moscow would also align with India’s broader push to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing under the “Make-in-India” initiative.

Named after the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, BrahMos is widely regarded as one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in operation. It has undergone upgrades over time, including improvements in range beyond its original 180-mile limitation.

According to statements attributed to BrahMos Managing Director Alexander Maksichev at an international naval defense event, the company is capable of fulfilling Russian requirements if an official request is made, noting that production capacity and technical understanding are already in place.

The missile itself was jointly developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, leading to the creation of BrahMos Aerospace in 1995 as a joint venture to produce the system.
